Signs of the Times

Topic: Alone with God

[Rev. Ford Gilbert, in the Lompoc Record, California]

Jesus ... was baptized by John, and immediately heard a voice from heaven proclaiming him the Son of God. His new task was to provide a worth-while program as such and see it placed in action.

The new task took him into the desert country, where he could be alone with God to plan the fundamentals of the kingdom he hoped to set up. It is in this relationship we hear of the activity of the Spirit. "Then Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan, and was led about by the Spirit in the desert." It is interesting to note that the dictionary expresses the usage of the word "full," "that which fills—a full supply." Jesus went into the desert prepared to face the actualities by having a full supply of the Spirit in his life.
