A written acknowledgment of blessings that I have received...
A written acknowledgment of blessings that I have received through Christian Science is long overdue, for throughout a period of years it has brought a healing and purifying influence into my life. I now grateful recognize that as thought is prayerfully held to the teachings of Christian Science, every moment of my day feels the beatific influence.
My childhood experience was marred with expressions of fear and pain by adult members of my immediate family, for the problem of gaining and maintaining health was one of almost daily concern. Consequently, various theories and methods of medical science became familiar to me at an early age, and their unfilled promises of healing led me to the mental extremity where the Christianly concern of a new-found friend persuaded me to consider Christian Science as a remedial agent. When it was presented to me I was under the care of a physician for what was diagnosed as an incurable stomach disorder, supposedly produced by mercurial poisoning contracted during my employment as an engineer with a quicksilver mining company. With little questioning, and without concern as to who the author was, I began reading the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, although I felt that it would not prove equal to my needs. Within a few weeks, as I awakened through my study to a new and truer sense of man and the Science of his being, the stomach disorder vanished, never to return.
Before I took up the study of this Science, I had a most bewildered sense of the meaning and purpose of life. I had not received any satisfactory enlightenment from the brief religious training of my boyhood, with the result that the common vital problems of daily life were so shrouded in uncertainties that my outlook was a most confused one. But through the study of Christian Science my appraisal of conditions is of a far more joyous and spiritually positive nature. I have gained, through demonstration, the positive assurance that the teachings of Christian Science embody the truth that makes men free, and that through its ministry we may all find God's ever-present goodness. Not a day passes but that I experience the healing of some disturbed state of thought, and fortunately I have discovered through Christian Science that this is the only kind of healing I shall ever need. These small proofs are assuredly the forerunners of greater blessings that are to follow as a fuller understanding is gained of the metaphysics of Christian Science.
