I give this testimony with a desire to pay a tithe on the debt I owe to Love for the blessings that Christian Science has brought into my life. I recount this very small per cent of my happy experiences, hoping that someone else may be helped as I have been heartened and helped by reading testimonies from other grateful followers of Truth.
My first proof that the Science of Christ is practical and applicable, here and now, came when I was a very new student of Christian Science. A large cinder had lodged under one of my eyelids. After several hours of vain attempt on my part to remove the particle, both eyes had become badly inflamed, swollen almost shut, and the pain was severe. I was about to go to an oculist, when the thought came, "Why not try Christian Science?" Error tried to discourage me by arguing that I was presumptuous to dare to try to make use of something of which I had so little knowledge. The "the still small voice" whispered: "You are the image and likeness of God. You know that God never created anything stronger than Himself to undo His own good work." The whole subject seemed to leave me then, and five minutes later, when it returned, I realized that the erroneous condition was gone; the healing was complete, without a vestige of anything to remind me of the trouble. I had used the little light that thus far had been revealed to me, and I had proved that to pray aright brings a sure and instantaneous answer from our loving Father-Mother God.
Severe attacks of indigestion that had been with me for years, and a condition of weak ankles, causing constant turning and spraining, disappeared a few months after I had begun the daily study of the Lesson-Sermons as outlined in the Christian Science Quarterly. A case of acute appendicitis, so serious that two physicians gave me little hope of recovery, and that only by an instant operation, was healed in three absent treatments.
