An item in this morning's Sun (December 16) quotes a New York minister as making various statements concerning Mary Baker Eddy and Christian Science. These statements and the implications of the article give a midleading impression of Mrs. Eddy and the religion she founded.

In 1866, when suffering from the effects of an accident, Mrs. Eddy turned to her Bible and was healed of her injuries. Later, through Scriptural research, she obtained a demonstrable understanding of God and man that enabled her to heal by spiritual means those who were suffering with various types of discord.

The first step toward healing oneself by such spiritual means is to gain a comprehension of the true nature of God. The teachings of Mrs. Eddy show that God is to be understood, adored, and worshiped in accordance with the words of Christ Jesus, "God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth;" and that those who follow the Master's teachings faithfully may reasonably expect to receive the blessings he promised when he said: "And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; ... if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover."
