I should like to express my deepest thanks for blessings...

I should like to express my deepest thanks for blessings which have come to us since I found Christian Science in the darkest hour. I now feel as though it had illumined my life with light and that I am just beginning to really live—to know Life aright.

I had been healed of a severe nervous breakdown largely through reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and had been an earnest student for only a few months when the following healing took place. One noon, when we were visiting relatives in Maine, our baby, aged one year and a half, pulled out the stick which was propping up a huge old-fashioned window. The window fell, crushing his hand to the thinness of paper. It was some moments before two of us could lift the window and release the hand. The evidence was such that my sister-in-law recommended that we take him to the hospital across the street. Instead, I washed the bleeding hand, which swelled rapidly and turned black, and took my stand for Christian Science by asking directions to the home of a listed practitioner. She was out. I then sent a telegram to Boston. That practitioner was out too, I learned later. Then I sat in the car in front of the closed Reading Room and worked to the best of my ability. It soon became evident that every second that I clung steadfastly to the truths of "the scientific statement of being" (Science and Health, p. 468) there was no crying, but that if my thought wandered for an instant, shrieks filled the air. A little later the Reading Room opened. I took the child up, sat him on a chair, and started to read. In about ten minutes he picked up the car keys with the injured hand and threw them on the floor; next followed a Monitor; so I closed Science and Health and said aloud, "You are healed." Through radical reliance on Truth the healing had taken place, and by evening hardly a mark could be seen. I have often marveled that there was no fear that the child might disturb the Reading Room, but there was none, and he did not. He took his nap at home as though nothing had occurred. This healing has often helped me to stand firm in subsequent trials.

Since then, two more children have come to us, and I had help from Christian Science. I was out walking as usual the day after one was born, and attended church and did household duties on the third day. The same physician was present, according to law, when the other child was born, and a nurse who is an earnest student of Christian Science attended me. Nevertheless, the birth was followed by a hemorrhage. I refused medicine offered by the physician, closed my eyes to her fear-filled face, and tried to know the allness of God and His laws. The nurse called the practitioner, three hundred and fifty miles away. Then she put her hand on my shoulder and said, "God is your Life, and you know it." I thought this over carefully and opened my eyes to a face full of love, without a trace of fear. No one can ever know how much this meant to me at that moment. The healing was instantaneous, and in the morning when the practitioner called I answered the telephone. Two days later I resumed normal activity. According to the physician my breathing had ceased and my pulse had stopped. I can never express enough gratitude for this proof that God is Life, my Life, and to the practitioner whose clear thought enabled us to make the demonstration. Nothing is impossible to God, and His laws are as applicable and provable as those of mathematics when we use them rightly. We had proved Mrs. Eddy's statement on pages 380 and 381 of Science and Health, "Every law of matter or the body, supposed to govern man, is rendered null and void by the law of Life, God."
