From Letters, Substantially as Published

In your issue of November 23 a clergyman is reported to have said that one way of facing fear is by "the denial of reality to evil." "This," he continues, "is an ancient mistake, revived by Mrs. Eddy and Christian Science. Evil according to them is only an illusion."

Christian Science teaches that God is infinite Spirit, and that He is inifnite good. He is the only creator, omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent. Where, in this infinitude of good, could evil exist as a reality? On page 275 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy defines God as "the divine Principle of all that really is." Christian Science teaches that evil is the suppositional absence of God; and if humanity would only wake up to this fact, deny all reality to evil, and proclaim the allness of God, they would hasten the fulfillment of the declaration in the Lord's Prayer: "Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven."
