Promotion
Promotion, metaphysically understood, offers equal opportunity to everyone. It does away with the habit of expecting promotion or fearing demotion through persons in authority. In the highest sense, promotion is the spiritual influence of divine Mind operating beneficently in human experience. As individuals grasp and apply the profound teachings of Christian Science and turn away from the doctrinal belief of fallen man, they may enjoy this spiritual promotion in respect to health, character, and circumstances. "For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another." The judgment of God is the judgment of good continuously promoting intelligent thinking and demoting unintelligent material belief. As we honestly consent both to promotion and demotion, "the old man" with his dismal characteristics fades out, for he never was real. For evil to be real, good would have to be unreal.
If, misled by fear or impatience, we should be tempted to take a blind leap into the unknown in order to better our position, this would be human impetuosity, and not the spiritual impetus of divine Mind, which carries with it guidance and protection. "Wisdom is the principal thing.... Exalt her, and she shall promote thee."
Promotion, then, means that divine Mind is promoting us above the level of fear and failure; above the dread of disease, poverty, or helpless old age; above selfishness and self-will into the recognition of everlasting health, abundance, activity, loving-kindness, and spiritual self-government.
