In 1922 I was stricken with a general breakdown which involved nearly my whole body. Being a chiropractor, I tried chiropractic first, with no results. Then I tried medicine, surgery, and osteopathy. I was confined in three hospitals and spent nearly fifteen months in bed, all the time growing worse. I reached the point at which I did not want to live any longer. Mentally and physically I was a wreck. Finally, through a peculiar coincidence, I went to live in the home of a lady who was a Christian Science practitioner. She presented this Science to me and I realized that I had found what I needed.
My healing was slow, but I am grateful that this made me study so much more. Many discords disappeared during the healing period, among them constipation of a lifetime, hemorrhoids, headaches, the smoking habit, and extreme nervousness. I was healed so completely that except for a brief attack of sciatica, which disappeared in a few treatments, I have not had a day's illness in ten years.
I am surely grateful for Christian Science. It has brought me a peace such as I had never known before. I am grateful for the life of our Leader, who stood steadfast in the face of opposition in order to give to the world this precious gift; for the practitioner who presented the truth to me; and humbly grateful for the privilege of participating in the activities of a branch church.
