How differently I think of things since I became a...
How differently I think of things since I became a student of Christian Science! In my old way of thinking, values were all more or less on a purely material basis. I loved what the world called possessions, which I sought as a means to happiness. But to my surprise and great sorrow, there came a time when practically everything my husband and I had labored to gain was swept from us through financial reverses. We were left without much evidence of our labor along material lines. However, during our struggle for worldly possessions we had become interested in Christian Science.
When the financial crash came, we were forced to turn to God as our sole means of help; and we did turn "with fear and trembling," and found our dear heavenly Father "a very present help in trouble." We went through this trial unhurt. Never were we without Love's care. Days and nights were both dark for a while; but after we had received much needed purification, lessons in humility, patience, and gratitude were learned; and with a corrected sense of true values the skies became clearer. Now my husband and I are both earnest students of Christian Science, members of The Mother Church, and have had the privilege of class instruction.
Aside from the above demonstration made over financial reverses, I am most happy to say that Christian Science heals physical ills as well. From early childhood I had suffered from nervous neuralgic sick headaches—supposed to have been inherited. My husband's brother, a physician, as well as other kind physicians, after working with me for a long while, said they could do nothing for me. Then, at the request of a dear one in the family, I consented to have a Christian Science treatment. I was helped, but not healed; in fact, it took two years and a half for me to receive my complete healing. I soon learned where the difficulty lay. I had much self-will, sensitiveness, irritability, to put off. As I began to change my thinking, and became more loving, patient, and tender, my healing came. Today I am well and happy, earnestly endeavoring to glorify God in thought and deed. Every day I love God and man more, and have a deeper appreciation of and love for our dear Master, Christ Jesus, and our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy. I am deeply grateful for Christian Science, and also for the help of practitioners along the way.
