As a Christian Scientist I wish to thank you for the article on Christian Science appearing in your issue of May 12. The article is informative both as to Christian Science and its Discoverer and Founder, Mary Baker Eddy.

The criticism of this articles appearing in your issue of May 26 was obviously written by one uninformed both as to Christian Science and Mrs. Eddy. In order to correct some of the wrong impressions which the criticism may have created with some of your readers, I shall appreciate your publishing this letter.

The facts are simple and reasonable, and should be readily grasped by anyone with an open mind.

As the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mrs. Eddy has given to the world a religion based on the Bible and the teachings of our great Master, Christ Jesus. Christian Science has definitely revealed to this age the truth about God and man and all reality. It is found that through the application of the teachings of Christian Science to them, human problems are met. Christ Jesus gives us this positive and comforting assurance: "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." It seems plain that the truth referred to by Christ Jesus is the truth about God and His laws.

That Christian Science is bringing healing to many thousands today there is abundant proof. The last chapter of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy consists of one hundred pages of testimonies of those who have been healed simply by reading the book. This chapter is called "Fruitage." Quarterly, monthly, and weekly periodicals of the Christian Science church contain testimonies of healing. Before publication, these testimonies are all verified or authenticated. These include the healing of heart trouble, blood poisoning, broken bones, cancer, tumor, influenza, consumption, fractured skull, rheumatism, cataract, etc. At the Wednesday evening meetings held in Christian Science churches time is given for verbal expressions of gratitude for healing.

Our critic states that "owners of Mrs. Eddy's 'Key to Health,' we are told, are prohibited from even lending it." Reference is no doubt intended to be made to "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," the textbook of Christian Science referred to above.

The facts regarding the lending of our textbook are as follows: Christian Science churches throughout the world maintain free Reading Rooms. The public is cordially invited to visit these Reading Rooms, where provision is made for the quiet reading and study of the Bible and all Christian Science literature, which, of course, includes Science and Health. In these Reading Rooms a free lending library is maintained from which the Bible, Science and Health and all the works by Mrs. Eddy can be borrowed. Many of the churches maintain such a lending library at the church building, where these books may be obtained both before and after church services. The textbook can also be obtained from most public libraries.

Our critic further states, "Who can point out a single Christian Science hospital, aged people's home, orphan asylum, or any organization or institution whatever that ministers in any degree to reliever the sick, the poor, or afflicted?" The fact is that the Christian Science church maintains at the present time three benevolent institutions, one in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, one in San Francisco, California, and one in Concord, New Hampshire.
