I first turned to Christian Science at the end of the World...
I first turned to Christian Science at the end of the World War, when a dear friend returned from it a moral and physical wreck. I desired with all my heart to help this one, who felt that through the shock and sordidness of war he had lost his soul. God led me to a Christian Science practitioner, who told me that man is God's image and could never change or lose Soul. In a few months the friend was restored physically and spiritually. In spite of this I did not continue with the study of Christian Science, or turn to it for help again until another loved one was stricken down with tuberculosis. With the loving help of a practitioner the condition was quickly healed, and the hemorrhage and the cough entirely disappeared. This healing turned me wholeheartedly to Christian Science, and many are the healings and blessings that have come into our home with the understanding of our Father's ever-present love and care.
I am very grateful for a healing of nervous breakdown and insomnia, when for a time it seemed as if God had left me. I can look back on that time of doubt and loneliness with gratitude to the practitioner who told me that God, Love, is present everywhere, and there is no place for error. I was healed of insomnia on reading the verse in Psalms, "I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, Lord, only makest me dwell in safety." I saw it was necessary to have peace first, then sleep followed naturally. I have proved that, however small one's understanding of the truth may seem to be at the time, God increases that understanding according to the effort made and to the desire that is in one's heart.
My consciousness is full of gratitude to God, to Christ Jesus, and to our beloved Leader, for giving us the knowledge of this truth that heals and brings such power and peace into our human lives. I am grateful also for membership in a branch church and in The Mother Church; for the Sunday school; for the Christian Science literature, the lectures, and the faithful practitioners.—(Mrs.) Mildred O. Eiloart, Iver, Buckinghamshire, England.
