With great gratitude I wish to testify to the healing power of Christian Science. When it was presented to me about fifteen years ago I was in a wretched state physically and mentally. I had been pronounced by doctors as incurable and in a hopeless condition, having suffered for many years from a complication of disease which had defied almost every kind of medical treatment.

Seeing my misery, a friendly Christian Scientist gently persuaded me to attend a Sunday morning service at a Christian Science branch church. As I entered the auditorium our Leader's beautiful hymn beginning, "O'er waiting harpstrings of the mind" (Poems, p. 12), was being sung, and the spiritual ideas expressed in that hymn instantaneously healed me of agnosticism. Up to that moment I had believed in material evolution. I now caught a gleam of the light of Truth and felt a great desire to know more.
