Twelve years ago I was asked to attend a Christian Science...

Twelve years ago I was asked to attend a Christian Science church meeting. At that time I had been suffering for over a year with eczema on my face and hands, and was well-nigh distracted. When asked to attend this meeting I readily consented, although I did not know why. I knew nothing at all about this Science, had never heard of its Discoverer, and knew nothing whatever about her works. I was much interested in the testimonies given, and when the meeting was over I asked for help. After seven months' treatment I became discouraged and told the practitioner that I did not intend to have any more work done. She asked me why. I told her that it was of no use; that I had been trying all these months to overcome my former mode of living, to get an understanding of the Bible, which had always been a closed book to me; I had been reading the Lesson-Sermons and whatever literature pertaining to Christian Science came into my possession, and still my trouble had not been overcome. She then asked me what I intended to do. Well, what did I intend to do? It was impossible to go back to materia medica. I remembered so vividly all I had tried and done, without healing results, and so I promised to continue with Science. Four months more elapsed before the ailment was healed, but I can honestly and candidly say that, although this healing was slow and the experience very trying, I am grateful because during this period I was enabled to get a broader and a better understanding of Christian Science, which has been a wonderful help to me since.

During this time I had healings of nasal catarrh from which I had suffered for years, although I had had two operations performed and the flesh cauterized; of lameness in an ankle from a trolley accident, which the doctor claimed would stay with me for the rest of my life; and of indigestion. There was no special work done for these three healings.

I am indeed grateful to Christ Jesus, our Way-shower, and to our revered Leader, who so unselfishly gave this truth to the world. All I am today, morally, physically, and spiritually, I owe to Christian Science. I should also like to add a few words of gratitude to the practitioner who helped me so kindly and patiently during this trying ordeal on my way Spiritward.—Fred Meyer, Bayonne, New Jersey.
