I am grateful that upon my first hearing of Christian Science I accepted it as the truth. A lady, seeing my great need, told me that if the Bible, together with the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, were studied, and the truths found therein were rightly applied, all my needs would be met; and in the past eighteen years I have found that statement to be true. During this time we have had many physical and financial healings in our home. Through the reading of the textbook, our children have been healed of scarlet fever in about three days' time, without any after effects; whooping cough in one instance in less than a week; and a broken collar bone.

Christian Science has done so much for me that words alone could not express my gratitude; it is only by daily striving to emulate Christ Jesus that I can best express my gratitude. Our Leader, out of her great love for humanity, has given us the Christian Science Quarterly, wherein we find Lessons prepared for us from the Bible and from Science and Health. One morning, upon awakening a little later than was my custom, and having an unusual amount of work to do that day, I was tempted not to take time to study the Lesson. This was silenced with the thought, If I haven't a little time for God, how can I expect to have time to do all this work? This settled the argument, and the Lesson, the subject of which was "Man," was read. Scarcely an hour had passed when I caught my forefinger in an electric wringer, the other part of the hand bending backward. I attempted to throw on the release, but instead I threw it in reverse, letting the wringer pass over my finger the second time. The pain was intense, but I held my hand behind me and refused to look at it. I remembered what I had just read in the Lesson a short time before, where our Leader tells us on page 475 of our textbook, "Man is not matter; he is not made up of brain, blood, bones, and other material elements." The Bible tells us in the first chapter of Genesis that man is made in the image and likeness of God. A truer concept of man thus came to me so clearly that in a very short time the pain had ceased, and my finger returned to its natural size and color. My heart was filled with gratitude to God for His great goodness and for His "very present help in trouble." I continued with my work and accomplished even more that day than I had thought possible.

Another instantaneous healing of which I should like to tell was that of a broken bone. In going out to feed the birds I slipped on an icy step, and fell the remaining four steps. The thought came that I had broken my leg above the ankle. This thought was reversed with what our Leader tells us on page 424 of our textbook, "Accidents are unknown to God." God's presence was so much in evidence that the birds came and ate from my lap of the food where it had fallen. With fear cast out of my consciousness I was healed instantly and completely, and in an hour's time I was in my place in the Sunday school. I am grateful for having had class instruction in my early study of Christian Science, also profoundly grateful for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church, and for the blessed privilege of serving in the activities of the the latter.
