The Gift of Sight

The Bible plainly states that God is Spirit, and in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 465) Mary Baker Eddy gives this term as one of the synonyms for Deity. That Spirit is indestructible almost everyone will readily agree. Then Spirit's impartations must partake of this indestructible nature.

One of God's precious gifts to man is the gift of sight, or spiritual vision. This gift, of necessity, reflects the immutability and perfection of Spirit; for does not James tell us that "every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning"? How impossible, then, that false material beliefs of advancing years or impaired eyesight should dim true vision! As we advance in spiritual understanding, our ability to discern all things mentally or spiritually develops. This is an effectual denial of the false claim that the passing of time can affect real sight.

Many students of Christian Science have found that by reading their textbook such clear glimpses of the reality of spiritual being have been gained that they have been quickly liberated from the need of wearing glasses. As we grasp more of the truth of man's oneness with the all-seeing Father-Mother, Mind, the scales of fear, failure, sickness, discouragement, and kindred errors fall from our eyes and we, like one whom Jesus healed, are able to see "every man clearly."
