Healing, be it understood, includes much more than...
Healing, be it understood, includes much more than mere bodily comfort and bodily ease. It means a mental transformation: "Be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind," as Paul said. Let it be known at once that healing as discovered and taught by Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, is not based on blind faith or human will-power; it contains nothing in the nature of superstition, or the use of hypnotism or mesmerism; it does not involve the mental influence of one human person over another. When we come to the question of healing in Christian Science, we are dealing with real Science, not opinion. We are using an understanding of spiritual truth and spiritual law in overcoming material human belief. The study of Christian Science involves the study of spiritual statements with a view of understanding them and applying them practically as a pupil understands and applies his knowledge of the multiplication table.
Healing in Christian Science rests upon the understanding that Spirit, God, is All-in-all, and there is no matter.
It is plain, therefore, that the body is merely a human concept, as is stated in Science and Health; that all reality is Mind and its manifestation, and that man in reality is a spiritual creation, a divine idea of Mind, God; and that all unlike God and this perfect creation is false and unreal. The problem of healing consists of apprehending this truth so clearly that the abnormal human concept of sickness and disease will be dissolved. It is the overcoming of false belief by the revelation and application of scientific truth. This distinguishes Christian Science from all other forms of so-called mental healing, and God, Spirit, is recognized to be the only healer.
