At a meeting in Harrow to discuss the Anglo-Catholic movement, a reference is reported to have been made to Christian Science which shows an astonishing lack of knowledge as to its teachings and practice. The speaker implied that it is heathenish and directly against God. Nothing could be farther from the truth. On page 275 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy writes, "The starting-point of divine Science is that God, Spirit, is All-in-all, and that there is no other might nor Mind,—that God is Love, and therefore He is divine Principle."

Christian Science teaches that sin and disease have a mental origin. The carnal mind, which St. Paul termed "enmity against God," is the source of all discord. When Christ Jesus said, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free," he made it clear that truth was the remedy for all erroneous conditions. The question was asked by Pilate, "What is truth?" Christian Science teaches that all truth must be immutable, spiritual, immortal, divine, harmonious, and eternal. The spiritual understanding of God, and of spiritual man as His image and likeness, is that which makes us free; and, as the Psalmist says, it is God "who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases." Christian Science is the teaching of Christ Jesus put into practice in healing the sick and reforming the sinner by his spiritual method.
