"God shall wipe away all tears"
"And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes." What a blessed promise do these words from the seventh chapter of Revelation convey! But in the midst of its earthly experiences humanity may say, Surely the promise is not meant to be fulfilled now, it can apply only to the future and to a state of existence different from this. One can readily see how mankind may think in this way; for to material sense mortals often suffer grievously, sickness appearing to pursue them, sin to drag them down mentally and physically, and sorrow to take their joy from them. To be told that all tears shall be wiped away—which implies that all that seems to cause suffering and sorrow shall cease—is to be informed of one of the most wonderful truths ever uttered. As the sufferer hears the words his hope revives, and his thought reaches out for their explanation and fulfillment—now.
The message which Christ Jesus brought to the world was comforting and healing. He told men of the eternal nature of Life, and he proved his words by his deeds. Did not he raise from the dead several who had passed through that experience? Did not he himself overcome the belief of death and come forth from the tomb? And by doing so, he brought to sorrowing humanity unspeakable comfort. Furthermore, he healed all manner of disease and sin, thus bringing back health and purity to many, and so, metaphorically and literally, wiping away their tears.
Christian Science is showing men how to follow in the footsteps of the Master by teaching them the Science which he understood and applied in the overcoming of all forms of error. It is instructing them in the great truths of spiritual being, telling them of the allness and perfection of God and of the perfection of His creation as the reflection of God. In doing so it is revealing to them the fact that whatever savors of imperfection is unreal, and that, therefore, disease, sin, suffering, and sorrow have no true existence. And with this understanding they are able to deny inharmony and to overcome it. In numerous instances those who have studied Christian Science, gaining thereby knowledge of the perfection of God and of man, His image or reflection, have been healed of disease that had previously baffled all attempts to heal it, or of sin that had persisted in spite of all their efforts to overcome it.
