[Original testimony in German]

The fact that I am living today and am entirely well, I...

The fact that I am living today and am entirely well, I owe to Christian Science. While on military service in 1920 I was thrown from my horse and was pinned underneath him. During the next ten years I was in constant and severe suffering, and in 1931 I had to undergo an operation on the stomach. Later that year hemorrhages again set in and in a short period I had sixteen. I had grown so weak because of the severe loss of blood that I was unconscious.

After two weeks I awakened for the first time, experiencing fearful pain in my body. The regular physician, the head physician, and the consulting authority were in attendance, and they held consultation about my condition. But since they were unable to find the cause of the trouble, I was X-rayed; and it was thereby ascertained that the trouble was shrinking of the liver, together with dropsy of the abdomen. In the spring I had a relapse. When my wife came to see me in the morning she was told that in the opinion of the doctors my hours were numbered and that she must be resigned to whatever happened. In her agitation she informed her parents of my hopeless condition. They had meanwhile heard of Christian Science from a friend. In the God-given knowledge that our Father-Mother God sustains us all with His infinite love, they turned to a practitioner, informed her by telephone concerning my condition and asked for help, which was at once given.

By the next morning my condition had improved some what, although I was still unconscious. On the second day thereafter, the practitioner called on me in the hospital and spoke to me. Immediately I opened my eyes and was able to talk with her. From that time on, my condition improved daily, and the physicians and nurses were all the more puzzled because from the day of the first Christian Science treatment all medical means and injections had been refused. My wife now read aloud to me each day from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy; and after a short time I could read too. Then I wished to be released from the hospital, in accordance with the practitioner's desire, but this was greatly opposed and I was warned that my condition did not yet permit it. Again my wife made a request of the physician; and with the remark, "You will certainly bring him back again," he gave her permission for me to go home for the holidays. Although I had to be taken home on a stretcher in an ambulance, nevertheless with the practitioner's help I soon recovered. With great joy and deep gratitude I can testify that the error entirely left me, and that I feel better today than in all the previous years.
