Signs of the Times

[Rev. H. T. Carnegie, in the Hampstead and St. John's Wood Advertiser, London, England]

Faced as we are with so many difficult problems which are crying out for settlement and solution—unemployment, housing, peace, and so on—the New Year is an opportunity for each and every individual to review his attitude towards those problems. In thinking about them are we guided merely by expediency or convenience, or by ... justice and truth and love? The happiness of the New Year must ultimately depend on whether or not we are seeking "the kingdom of God." If we have the kingdom "within" us, then inevitably the various problems will find their true solution, and we shall have the real happiness of knowing we have stood with courage for the things which really matter and are the only eternal truths.
