The Lectures

Rocky Mount, North Carolina (First Church).

Lecturer: Mrs. Nelvia E. Ritchie; introduced by Miss Margaret Ricks, who said:—

On page 17 of the Church Manual we read that the Christian Science church was designed to "reinstate primitive Christianity and its lost element of healing." A lecture on Christian Science deals with these vital things of human existence, healing and salvation. Everyone wants to be well, and everyone wants to feel sure of eternal life. I did not come to Christian Science for physical healing, though I have received many healings since I began the study of it. The first of these healings was of a lameness from which I had suffered since babyhood. I awoke one day to the realization that I was absolutely free from pain for the first time that I could remember. This healing came through no conscious effort on my part, but just through studying "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. Later I was able to dispense with glasses which I had worn for thirty years. But even greater than the physical healing is the joy that comes with the knowledge that we are the children of God and "joint-heirs with Christ." Mrs. Eddy's broad vision foresaw the need for sharing this message of joy and healing and provided for it through the Board of Lectureship of The Mother Church.
