The Lectures

Introductions to Lectures

Johnson City, Tennessee (First Church).

Lecturer: Mrs. Nelvia E. Ritchie; introduced by Lester A. Ballew, who said:—

Christian Science teaches absolute obedience to the First Commandment of the Decalogue. It affirms the Scriptural mandate as found in Philippians, "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus." It gives mankind a clear understanding of the nature and unreality of evil, and points out that its source lies in the human or, as Paul named it, the carnal mind. The carnal mind, or erroneous thinking, has ever betrayed humanity into bondage to itself. The student of Christian Science learns that in order to be free from this bondages with all its attendant ills and discords—fear, poverty, sin, disease, and death—it is necessary to reflect the qualities of the divine Mind, that Mind which was in Christ Jesus, and thus partake of man's rightful heritage as the son of God.
