Christian Science came to my attention at a time when organized religion was repellent to me and I was frankly skeptical. Though by nature deeply religious and reared in a religious atmosphere, I had acquired a through distaste for the church, which to me did not seem to fulfill its mission. However, I saw a sister healed of tumor, chronic constipation, and other physical ailments; and also of worry, false responsibility, and a gloomy outlook on life, through the teachings of Christian Science. Then I opened the door of my thought to this "new" religion, and began to study it. That was about sixteen years ago.
Since then I have observed and experienced many healings through the application of Christian Science—healings of epilepsy, serious heart trouble, incipient insanity, a so-called incurable form of eczema, hernia, catarrh, and a throat condition pronounced by medical science incurable without the removal of tonsils.
Several years ago, a broken rib which occasioned such intense pain when I took a deep breath that I was obliged to lie down and ask for help, was healed almost instantly when the truth was silently and audibly declared for me. Attacks of chronic neuralgia, which frequently necessitated my going to bed, have also been overcome. My baby son, whose right hand was severely burned when he fell with it flat upon a red-hot coal stove, was healed of pain within an hour, and in ten days the hand was completely restored. A serious attack of convulsions, infections, influenza, and several of the so-called children's sicknesses have been speedily overcome through the application of the truth.
