Walking with God

[Written Especially for Children]

There was a very wise man who lived many, many centuries ago. We do not read very much about him in the Bible, but we know that he was wise, for we read that "Enoch walked with God," and in another place we read that "he pleased God." We, of course, know that anyone is wise who wants to walk with God.

It is indeed a sweet thing to walk with God, to talk with Him, and to listen to all the lovely things He has to say to us. We are walking with God when we are listening to His voice that bids us be kind to the birds, to all the little animals, to our friends, and to everyone, and to be gentle, unselfish, and watchful of our thoughts, words, and actions. We are walking with God when we turn from the temptation to be angry, to be sad, to be greedy, to be selfish, and not to tell the truth. Then, because we are walking with God and He is always with us, we need not be afraid to tell the truth always; we have nothing to be angry about, and since He gives us everything we should have, we need not be selfish or greedy.

This walking with God is a very close and happy companionship with the best friend we can have. Even if we sometimes slip when we are trying hard to walk with God, He is never angry with us, for Love never changes; and quickly knowing this helps us to stand and walk uprightly again. Then that helps us to be a much better friend to everyone we love and want to be loved by; and, as Christian Science teaches us, that means everybody.
