One way I may prove my gratitude for the healing through...
One way I may prove my gratitude for the healing through Christian Science of what was diagnosed as fibroid tumor or carcinoma is by sending my testimony to the Christian Science periodicals.
In February, 1922, an attack of influenza left me with heart trouble. For months I had difficulty in walking very far, especially uphill. In April I was taken with neuritis in my arms, shoulders, and the back of my head. During this time I had Christian Science treatments, but I realize now that I left too much to the practitioner and did not do enough real studying myself.
After two practitioners had worked for me, certain members of my family who were not Christian Scientists insisted upon a medical diagnosis by an eminent physician and surgeon. I did not wish it, and argued that it would do no good because I had no faith in it and would never turn from Christian Science to materia medica. After praying over it one whole night I consented to the diagnosis, but made it clear to them that, no matter what the physician's verdict, I would not consent to an operation. The diagnosis was made, and the verdict was fibroid tumor. My relatives, who were acting according to their highest sense of right, again tried to convince me that it was my duty to have an operation, since the physician had said that if I was not operated on within two months it would be too late. Again I refused. The heart trouble and the neuritis had been overcome, and I was holding my strength, which proved that the work being done for me was effective. I realized that I must get a clearer understanding of God, and I prayed to be shown the way.
