Extracts from an Address delivered by Alfred Johnson, Christian Science Committee on Publication for Yorkshire, England, before the Malton Clerical Society

The teaching that God is All-in-all is the corner stone of Christian Science. To begin thus with God and adhere to God as the only cause is to honor and maintain the First Commandment.

The teaching of Christian Science in regard to man is based upon the Biblical declaration that God created man in His own image; and this, therefore, is positive recognition of the true man as wholly spiritual. We cannot find or know the true nature of man as the image of God by looking for him in matter. We learn of man by contemplating God, Spirit, as the creator.

Our Master, Christ Jesus, by precept and practice, persistently illustrated that there can be no possible amalgamation of Spirit and matter, truth and error, good and evil. He said, "If ye continue in my word, ... ye shall know the truth"—the truth about God and His spiritual creation—"and the truth shall make you free."
