"That my children walk in truth"

John, the beloved disciple, writes in the fourth verse of his third epistle, "I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth."

Without doubt one of the tenderest of human relationships is that between parent and child. And many devoted Christian Scientists daily send forth the prayerful inquiries, What good thing shall we do for our children? How shall our human love best express itself to them in order to reflect most perfectly the nature of divine Love?

In seeking an answer to these important questions, we may safely take the Bible as our guide; for Mrs. Eddy calls the Bible "the wise man's directory" (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 363). In our Leader's writings also is given what should be the correct attitude toward the rearing and educating of our children. We find in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy (p. 62), for example, her explicit instruction: "The entire education of children should be such as to form habits of obedience to the moral and spiritual law."
