Keeping On

The dominion bestowed upon us by God is to be exercised through spiritual understanding. This knowledge equips Christian Scientists for fulfilling ceaselessly what the Apostle Peter indicated as the purpose, the obligation, the privilege of those whom he termed "a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people," a condition involving the duty that, as he said, "ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light."

In this Scriptural verse Christian Scientists can find the challenge: Show by your works that man's gift from God is not darkness, but light; that this light reveals God's omnipotence, omnipresence, and omniscience, which man is to reflect. Thereby the government of divine Principle is expressed for the practical benefit of mankind in the annihilation of evil.

Mrs. Eddy declares in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 303): "God, without the image and likeness of Himself, would be a nonentity, or Mind unexpressed. He would be without a witness or proof of His own nature." Therefore man, as the idea of Mind, does "shew forth" the qualities of God, including power, intelligence, love.
