When Christian Science was presented to me I was in...
When Christian Science was presented to me I was in "the valley of the shadow of death." I had suffered for a number of years with what physicians diagnosed as tuberculosis of the bowels. I had reached the stage where I could not eat or sleep, weighed only eighty-five pounds, and was confined to my bed most of the time. Death seemed to be inevitable.
At this time a friend, who was not a Christian Scientist, came to visit me and asked me and asked me why I did not try Christian Science, as it had healed her husband. I told her I should be glad to try it, and she sent a practitioner to see me. The practitioner talked with me for about half an hour, and then told me if I decided to give up my reliance on material medicine and turn to God for healing to come to his office the next day for treatment. Fifteen minutes after he had left my bedside I was up and dressed and playing the pianola. I shall never forget that evening; a great joy and a wonderful hope filled my whole being. The next day I went to see the Christian Science practitioner and I also purchased a copy of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. When I returned home I started to read, and before I had finished the chapter on Prayer I knew that Christian Science was what I had been seeking for years.
I must have been healed instantaneously, for that day I ate two hearty meals and continued to do so throughout the days that followed. But after I started to read Science and Health I forgot I had come to Christian Science for healing; my only desire was to know more of the wonderful truths contained in that little book. It was two weeks after I had taken up this study when I realized I was healed.
