Ask Not for Tomorrow

Ask not for tomorrow,
Lift thine eyes today,
See Love's bow of promise
Span the clouds of gray.
Cease thy thoughts of sorrow,
Turn, with joy, to borrow
Praise from bird and flower,
Nor from loving stray.

Take no thought for raiment,
Lilies are arrayed
In a radiant glory;
Be thou unafraid.
Trusting Love to bless thee,
Let not doubt oppress thee;
Seek His heavenly kingdom—
Hast thou thus obeyed?

Simply did the Master
Teach us how to pray,
And through bird and blossom
Point the care-free way.
Tender love enfolds thee,
Law, almighty, holds thee;
Ask not for tomorrow—
Love is here today.
