Christian Science was first brought to my notice through...

Christian Science was first brought to my notice through the Sentinel, a copy of which was handed me by a member of the Board of Lectureship. This was carefully read and greatly appreciated. I found that this Science was just what I had been longing for. The part that interested me so much was the fact that it offered healing, of which I was in need. I had often wondered why it was not possible to heal today through the same power that Jesus employed. After reading two or three Sentinels I decided to purchase the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, to learn more of this great truth that makes free.

As I had been reared in accordance with so-called orthodox teaching from childhood, there was much to be overcome in thought and deed. I continued reading, studying, and pondering the textbook for about one year before a final decision was made. Then I started to put into practice this wonderful truth in so far as I understood it, and to my joyful surprise I found that it actually worked.

In Matthew we read that "with God all things are possible." By pondering this positive statement made by Jesus I was able to subdue the voice of error; and in making my first demonstration of God's omnipotence and omnipresence I was helped by the words of Jesus, "But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly." This was very clear in my consciousness, with the result that a severe headache was instantaneously healed. This, of course, brought with it an increased measure of faith and a wonderful spiritual uplifting. This was after I had thrown out all the medicines and decided to prove the ability of Christian Science for myself.
