Definite Preparation

A YOUNG student who was attending a state university found that her course demanded ten credits in chemistry. Since this type of work was difficult for her, she put it aside until her senior year, thus delaying what she considered the evil day as long as possible. A short time before graduation she found it necessary to give up her work, and a number of years passed before she could return to complete her course. In the meantime she became a student of Christian Science.

When she resumed her studies, chemistry still confronted her, but this time her attitude toward it had changed. She had learned the power of Christian Science, and, confident of her ability to apply the truth, she set to work to prepare the subject conscientiously and honestly, trusting God as did David of old, who knew that since God was able to subdue the lion and the bear He could also protect and strengthen against the threat of the Philistine.

At the end of the third week of school she received notice that she must take a trip across the state, thus being absent over the week-end. The day these plans were made the professor of chemistry announced that he would give his first examination on the following Monday. At first fear seized her. She needed time to review. She must give up the trip. But then she thought of her armor. As she had Christian Science, it was not necessary for her to give up anything that was good. So, leaving the matter in the hands of God, she boarded the train for her destination.
