I began the study of Christian Science about thirty-one...
I began the study of Christian Science about thirty-one years ago, and since that time have never called a physician or used any material remedy for healing.
I did not investigate this Science for the physical benefits, although at the time I was far from well, but because I was not satisfied with my religious experience. I had been a member of an orthodox church since the age of fifteen, but after the passing on of my first little son I grew very bitter when relatives and friends said it was God's will that he should be taken, and that I must be resigned. I did not care to attend church services as I had before, and was ever seeking a solution of life's problems.
Several years of ill health followed, and I was seldom free from pain or suffering, although I tried many remedies and sought the help of physicians. One day while I was traveling on a train two ladies entered into conversation with me and brought up the subject of Christian Science. They explained somewhat of its teachings, and I was deeply interested. It seemed too good to be true. But I was not yet ready for the beneficent help of Christian Science. I took up the study of mental science and looked into different isms, but found no lasting help or comfort. After several more years of semi-invalidism and the passing on of my only daughter, nine years of age, I turned away forever from medical help and material means for healing. I purchased a copy of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and a short perusal of it convinced me that I had found the truth I long had sought.
