I came into Christian Science after searching vainly in...

I came into Christian Science after searching vainly in medical science for more than twenty-five years for the restoration of my health. I had used medicine given by fifteen doctors during these years. While some of the doctors expressed hope, a few were pessimistic; and I am informed that one of them told a friend of his that I could not live beyond one or two years at the most. That was seventeen years ago.

During the time I was doctoring I also used many so-called "home cures," but they likewise failed to benefit me; so that I gradually grew worse. After all these medicines had injured my stomach and affected my heart, I gave up medicine, not knowing what to do further. I was willing to catch hold of even a straw to try to save myself. What seemed to me but a straw at this time—Christian Science—proved to be a stout rope by which I was pulled out of a pit. So it was again proved that "man's extremity is God's opportunity."

I can gratefully say that God, through the revelation of Christian Science, has healed me of a very bad case of asthma of twenty-five years' standing. After I had suffered intensely one night, my husband told me in the morning to get ready to visit a Christian Science practitioner twelve miles away. Although this Science was entirely new to me, and we felt rather timid at the idea of trying it after using the medicines of so many learned men, we went, and had a helpful and hopeful talk with a practitioner, one who spoke "not with enticing words of man's wisdom," but who told me that in reality I was God's perfect child. He told me to return home and meditate and read some references he gave me and also the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly. This I did. The very first night after the treatment I slept all night until late in the morning. I woke up refreshed, and was healed of what I had endured for so many years; there was not a trace of the difficulty left.
