There are many ways afforded us of expressing gratitude for the great healing truth, Christian Science, and I should like to use this means of telling in a few words something of what Christian Science has done for me.

It was not for physical healing that I sought something highter than I knew, nine or ten years ago, but because I was not satisfied with the teaching of the church in which I had been brought up. I wanted to know more of God as Love, rather than as a power which allowed all kinds of evil. This truth had been brought to my notice two or three years previously, but I did not then recognize it as the answer to my prayer; and even when I started to read the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, it was some months before I decided that it was what I had been seeking. We had always been very strictly tied to our church, and it was considered quite unchristian to investigate any other teaching; so it was with diffidence that I approached this book.

The healings I have experienced have been numerous. Some of them, I am grateful to say, came very quickly, others perhaps not so easily; but when the healing has been slow there has always come a greater sense of courage and perseverance. Colic, rheumatism, headaches, colds, and imparied sight have all been overcome by the application of Christian Science; a cavity in a tooth was completely healed within forty-eight hours through my holding to the truth that man is perfect and that "all space is filled with God" (Science and Health, p. 469). The most wonderful healing, that of impaired sight, occurred more recently. I had always had normal sight until a little over a year ago, when, after I had been reading for any length of time, the sight would become misty. I tried to do my own work about this, and at times the difficulty seemed to have been met; but the healing was not complete, and other symptoms appeared which I knew must be the result of something in my thought which needed to be corrected and which I was unable to uncover. I sought the help of a practitioner, and during a talk with her I was led to mention something that proved to be the error that had to be destroyed. We knew the healing had been accomplished, and I had only to take the necessary human footsteps in order to prove that, as Mrs. Eddy tells us (ibid., p. 586), eyes are "spiritual discernment." This was so. I saw quite plainly that I had allowed thoughts of doubt and fear to enter my consciousness for a time, and these were attempting to obstruct the spiritual vision. For this healing my gratitude goes out to our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, who, through her untiring and God-crowned efforts has given to the world the undeniable trust about God and man, which never fails when honestly and understandingly applied. It is only through the study of her textbook, together with the Bible, that we can follow our Way-shower, Christ Jesus, and learn to do the works which he did and commanded us to do.
