God Supplies All Good

One of the many blessings Christian Science confers on mankind is that it shows them how in times of need to turn to God in simple trust and obedience, and warns them against the temptation to look upon any evil condition as true or real, or to question God's willingness and ability to help them. This calls for trust in and obedience to Truth, and the forsaking of error.

All through the Scriptures there are accounts of those who through some spiritual experience learned that, in spite of the general erroneous belief to the contrary, there is a sufficiency of everything good, since God, who is inexhaustible good, maintains His creation with abundance for all. This, for instance, is what Isaac probably learned in the digging of the three wells, as recorded in Genesis.

The first well was abandoned because of strife with the herdmen of Gerar, who said, "The water is our's." And Isaac named the well "Esek" (meaning strife). The second well was likewise striven for, and it, also, was abandoned by Isaac after naming it "Sitnah" (hatred). At this point the narrative indicates that Isaac detected the error that was interfering with his demonstration, for the third well was dug in peace: they strove not. This one he named "Rehoboth" (room), for, said he, "the Lord hath made room for us." This story shows that when Isaac dug selfishly for himself and his own people, he encountered strife so severe that he lost that for which he had labored; but when he finally realized that there was enough for all, and dug again in an unselfish spirit, he found peace and plenty.
