More than twenty-one years have passed since a dear...
More than twenty-one years have passed since a dear friend came to visit us, bringing with her a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. This friend had been healed of paralysis, and she informed me she was quite certain that if I should study this book I too would be healed. I was suffering with what seemed to be an incurable stomach trouble, which the physicians called gastritis, accompanied by serious heart trouble, and had been living on a strick diet for nine years. I say living, but I was only eking out a miserable existence. I purchased a copy of Science and Health and commenced to study it in connection with the Bible. One year later, learning that a Christian Science practitioner had located in a town near by, I went to her for treatment and was healed. Since that time no material remedy has been used in our home.
Previous to my taking up the study of Christian Science we were always having what we called "bad luck," and lived in constant fear of lack. This friend told me that we would see a change in our financial affairs; and I and truthfully say that from the day that I commenced to study there was a gradual change for the better, and to-day we know there is no lack in God's kingdom. My journey from sense to Soul has been slow, and I am grateful that I have had to prove every step. I have seen infantile paralysis, epileptic fits, appendicitis, inflammatory rheumatism, measles, facial paralysis—all manner of disease—healed by Christian Science. I have passed very near "the valley of the shadow of death," and even there the truth did not fail me. Like Job I can say, "I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear: but now mine eye seeth thee." I am grateful for the pure life of Mrs. Eddy, for class instruction from a loyal teacher, and for the privilege of serving in the church and Sunday school.
