When I turned to Christian Science it was not for physical...
When I turned to Christian Science it was not for physical healing but for the healing of a condition of extreme discord in my family, and I am grateful to be able to testify to the fact that Christian Science heals inharmony as well as disease. The discordant condition was not healed instantaneously, although there was a decided improvement almost immediately. Through consecrated study and a better understanding of Mrs. Eddy's words in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 215), "Whatever is governed by God, is never for an instant deprived of the light and might of intelligence and Life," and by my holding steadfastly to the fact that man is the image and likeness of God, the discord has given place to harmony. Self-will and a belief in the power of intellectuality had to be overcome, and I had to learn that "seeking is not sufficient. It is striving that enables us to enter" (ibid., p. 10).
From the beginning of my study physical ills disappeared; headaches, to which I had always been subject, grew less frequent and finally vanished, and rheumatism and many minor ailments were also healed. For many years I had worn glasses, and whenever I attempted to use my eyes without them I had the most violent headaches; and my sight was very imperfect. About a year after I began to study Christian Science I was able to lay aside glasses, and ever since then, although this was many years ago, I have been able to read and to do any kind of work requiring close attention, with no resultant headaches.
I am more grateful every day for Christian Science, for Mrs. Eddy's pure and unselfish love for mankind, and for the increasing activity of the Cause of Christian Science.—(Mrs.) Julia Ensign Warren, Los Angeles, California.
