The Lectures

Introductions to Lectures

Boston, Massachusetts (Third Church, Hyde Park).

Lecturer: Robert Stanley Ross; introduced by Edwin E. Lesson, who said:—

In the seventh chapter of the Gospel of Matthew is recorded a statement by the Master to the effect that men should be known by their fruits or works. After he had thus expressed himself, following his immortal Sermon on the Mount, he proceeded into Capernaum, where he healed the centurion's servant of the palsy. Soon thereafter he entered into Peter's house, where he found Peter's mother-in-law sick with a fever; and, as it is related, he "touched her hand, and the fever left her." Such were the fruits by which Jesus supported his teachings, proving by demonstration that his mission was God-endowed.
