The opinion of a preacher, who said that Christian Science...

Tribune-Republican

The opinion of a preacher, who said that Christian Science was founded upon a fraudulent basis, was reported in your issue of April 25. This opinion is not shared by many eminent clergymen. For instance, the Reverend Edward T. Vernon of London has said: "God used her [Mrs. Eddy], they aver, for a special revelation, and there is indeed no reason why this should not be so. No just person can fail to admire Mrs. Eddy as a religious leader."

A certain blind man, in the days of the Master, was healed of his blindness. To the unbelievers, who said that the Master was a sinner, the man who was healed of blindness said, "Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see;" and also, "If this man were not of God, he could do nothing." If the law revealed in Christian Science is not of God, it could not be demonstrated in the healing of sickness, sin, lack, and unhappiness, as is being done in numerous instances to-day.

Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, who gave to the world a truer concept of God and man, was actuated only by a genuine love for mankind. She constantly drew thought away from personality and directed it toward God. In her Message to The Mother Church for 1901 (p. 34) she says, "Godliness or Christianity is a human necessity: man cannot live without it; he has no intelligence, health, hope, nor happiness without godliness."
