I took up Christian Science because I was in a very bad...
I took up Christian Science because I was in a very bad condition mentally and physically. I was afraid of everything. I had been going to a physician for a long time, but had not received much help. I had a dear sister who had been interested in Christian Science for some time, and who had talked to me about it; but I did not accept it until I found myself in such a condition that I thought I would go insane if I did not get help somewhere.
I went to my sister one Sunday morning, instead of going to my old church, and asked her if she would try to help me. She very lovingly took up the work. For a few days it seemed as though I were in a whirlwind, but after that I calmed down and received a wonderful healing. I had been holding a resentful thought toward a member of my husband's family who I thought had done me a great wrong, and I saw that in order to be healed I must overcome evil with good, as the Bible teaches. So I went to the one who I thought had wronged me and showed a loving spirit, and shortly after that I received my healing.
I have been through deep waters since then. I have been healed of partial paralysis, of catarrh of long standing, of a broken rib—the result of a fall—and of sorrow; and I am being healed of unkind criticism and of seeing my brother as unlike God. I am trying to do as Paul tells us, to think on the pure, the lovely, the good, and the true, and by so doing to do my little bit in helping to make the world better. To say I am grateful is putting it mildly; I feel that I must do more than say I am grateful—I must act as showing my gratitude.
