Christian Science has healed me of many ills

Christian Science has healed me of many ills. There are two experiences which I particularly wish to relate. In February, 1921, I contracted an ailment which was diagnosed as smallpox. This was, indeed, a testing time, and there was a constant struggle to cast out fear. The words of the hymn beginning, "Why is thy faith, O child of God, so small?" came to me day after day, and an analysis of their meaning, according to the teachings of Christian Science, always brought help. Also, the answer to the question, "What is man?" as given in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy (pp. 475, 476), was a continual inspiration. On the tenth of March our baby boy was born. He had no mark of smallpox, and has always been strong.

The second healing took place in June, 1923. One afternoon I was suddenly taken very ill, and became worse each hour. I called a Christian Science practitioner for help, which was given. Morning came, but no improvement in my condition; in fact, I was unconscious most of the time. A reputable doctor stated the condition to be one which required an immediate operation, and named the disease peritonitis. He said I would probably die. However, we continued Christian Science treatment. In twenty-four hours the discoloration had left and there followed a gradual improvement. In four days I was free from pain, and had no return of the distress. At the end of four weeks I was able to attend to all my household duties and to care for our little boy.

As time goes on, I am more and more grateful for my healings. I feel a great sense of gratitude for the practitioners who gallantly carried on the work and were constantly on guard against the suggestions of error. I wish to express my thankfulness to the nurse who was so faithful in doing all she could in nursing me, and in denying the claims of error and affirming the truth. To my Christian Science friends, who gave to me the true compassion which uplifts and helps, I am grateful; and to my husband, who trusted Christian Science to heal me, I am also grateful. To Mrs. Eddy, who listened to the voice of God, who heard and obeyed it, and who was divinely inspired to write Science and Health and establish our churches, I am grateful. I should also like to add my gratitude for class instruction.—(Mrs.) Lucille Holmes Hildebrecht, Grand Forks, North Dakota.
