"My healing"

It is not unusual, when healing is not immediately manifested and one is striving to gain a clearer realization of the healing power of God that Christian Science teaches, to hear the expression, "When I get my healing." In these simple words there is food for serious thought and analysis; for what do they imply? The very expression carries with it the hint that there is health and healing which belongs to one, and which can somehow be obtained.

A consideration of the foregoing involves the question, What is real health, and what is healing? Is health physical, and is healing a metaphysical process or condition? To answer this, something about God, the one and only creator, must be known. The Bible declares God to be Spirit—perfect; and in the first chapter of Genesis is stated in detail the progress of creation: "And God said: ... and it was so." God, Spirit, created man in His image and likeness; therefore, spiritual. And of health the Psalmist declares. "Hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God." God is the cause and source of everything real; hence, of real health. Being perfect, He is the source of perfect health; and therefore the likeness of God perfectly reflects this condition. Man's real health, then, is as permanent, continuous, and indestructible as its source, God. The real man has health now, has always had health, and always will have health. But what of the seeming sin, sickness, and disease one sees all around? They do not belong to the man of God's creation; they claim to belong to "the old man with his deeds,"which must be "put off." God never made them, and the belief in them can be destroyed in the same way that our Master destroyed them. The problem of health, then, in Christian Science is a mental problem; and it is solved only by the process of spiritual thinking and right living. Christian Science healing is the result of being regenerated.

Mrs. Eddy states in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 390), "It is our ignorance of God, the divine Principle, which produces apparent discord, and the right understanding of Him restores harmony." Her statement conforms to that made by Jesus, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." Sickness and suffering result from ignorance of Truth, God, and this ignorance is of the human or carnal mind, "the old man." Ignorance of God is healed when the truth about Him is understood. Paul admonished, "Be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."
