West Australia
In to-day's issue of the West Australian is a report of the address delivered last night by the moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Western Australia, wherein he criticizes Christian Science. The trouble with some criticisms is that they are more severe than correct. And when such come from a minister of religion, it certainly shows a lack of Christian tolerance.
We are all agreed that Jesus was the founder of Christianity, and he shows us by his teaching and practice what Christian worship really means. When John's disciples came asking, "Art thou he that should come"? Jesus pointed to his works as well as to his preaching. Healing and teaching went hand in hand with Jesus: they could not be separated. Jesus commanded all who followed him to do as he did. Christian Scientists are carrying out Jesus' commands, both in teaching and in healing; and the healing, regenerating results naturally prove this worship to be truly Christian.
The moderator's remark about Mrs. Eddy shows that he neither understands Christian Science nor Christian Scientists. Christian Scientists are grateful to Mrs. Eddy for revealing Christian Science, or the Science, of and they express their gratitude; but they worship only one infinite God, whom they know to be ever present, healing and saving all who call upon Him "in spirit and in truth."
