I did not come into Christian Science for physical healing...
I did not come into Christian Science for physical healing or indeed for myself at all, but because I understood it would help my dear mother, who was said to be suffering from an incurable malady—senile decay. But as soon as I began to read our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, it made an instant appeal to me. I began to attend the Christian Science services immediately, and have never once turned back from seeking to know more of the truth as revealed by Mrs. Eddy in her writings and in the authorized literature of The Christian Science Publishing Society.
My mother was greatly helped. I witnessed a complete change of character in her, and from being rather difficult to get on with, she became amenable, loving, and grateful. I am very grateful for what Christian Science, through the loving, patient ministrations of various practitioners, did for her.
For myself I have experienced the healing of lifelong constipation, of sprained ankles, severe colds, headaches, nosebleeding, rheumatism, abscess in the ear, and fear of possible unemployment. I should like to give this last experience in the hope that it may help someone in a similar difficulty. A few years ago, while in a berth that I had occupies for over three years, I was offered an administrative and progressive post in another firm. The new work seemed full of promise, and after a good deal of quiet mental work, in which I received the loving help of a friend, I accepted the offer, resigning the position I then held. However, within one month of the time when I should commence work with the new firm I was told that their plans for growth and expansion had fallen through, and they asked me to make my own arrangements, as they now had no position for me. At first I felt upset and disappointed, but in a short time the words on page 494 of Science and Health came to me, "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need;" and I ceased to feel any fear or anxiety for the future, knowing that as "day by day" the manna fell," so, as my needs arose, they would be met by divine Love.
