Through your courtesy and fairness, the principal object...

Through your courtesy and fairness, the principal object of my letter's appearing in your colums March 7 has been attained, namely, to make plain to your readers that Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, was never a mesmerist, and never taught mesmerism, as could be inferred from your statement of January 10.

However, I should like to comment on your assertion that Christian Scientists are doing "none" of the works that Christ Jesus did, and said his followers should do. While Christian Scientists make no claim to having attained to the spiritual understanding of the Master, they are measurably emulating his example, and are healing the sick and the sinning through spiritual means, or prayer, in ever increasing numbers. Witnesses to such healing are to be found almost everywhere throughout the civilized world.

Moreover, the Christian Science movement has grown at the rate of approximately one church a week during the past decade; and as every such church is a testimonial to the power and grace of Him who healeth all our diseases, it is evident that Christian Science does heal the sick, in accord with the requirement of Christ Jesus.
