[Written for the Sentinel]
No Separation
Through
human silence comes the voice of God,
Dispelling doubt, and compassing about
With tender loving every weary heart.
Through human silence comes the voice of Love,
Filling all space, so that I no more miss
The sound of human speaking, or the touch
Of human fingers that once clung to mine.
God's peace is here; the human silence fades
And in its place sweet angel-voices ring,
And fill eternity. God's tender hand
Holds mine. And so I no more feel the lack
Of human comfort, for the angels sing
A sweeter note than ever human heart
Could think to utter, be it e'er so sweet.
Out of the silence came the voice of God,
Fadeless and pure, that cannot pass away.
Out of the silence came the touch of God,
Bidding me rise unto the perfect day.
