About twelve years ago I walked from the office of one of the best surgeons in the city of Portland, Oregon, condemned by him and one of his colleagues to a choice of lifelong invalidism or submission to a surgeon's knife. Neither of these appealed to me, and I knew not what I was to do. In the evening of the same day a dear friend placed in my hands a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, telling me that this little book had brought much of peace, joy, health, happiness, and harmony into his home; and he assured me that if I would but read the book with an open mind I would receive much help, and that I might even be healed.
Through reading this blessed book, praying aright, and sincerely believing that I would receive that for which I asked, in about four months I was completely and permanently healed of what the surgeons had called the worst case of double inguinal rupture that had ever come under their care. At the same time a beautiful child was born almost painlessly and without medical aid.
My husband during the world war had received a serious injury. The surgeons had done all that they could for him, but had failed to heal him. Thinking not of himself, but only of me and the welfare of the expected child, my husband had read with me and prayed with me, and believing sincerely with me in the healing power of Christian Science he also received a complete and permanent healing.
