My mother began the study of Christian Science when I was quite a young girl, physically well and strong. The teaching that God is Love appealed to me always, as it did not seem possible that a supreme, omnipotent Being could send the sickness, sorrow, and disaster to His children which appeared on every side. So, as a religion, Christian Science satisfied me, and later it met my need for physical healing many times. For the past thirty years it has been my stay under all circumstances, bringing when most needed the sense of peace that passes understanding.

Some twenty years ago a swelling appeared on my neck. After I had applied what understanding I had of Christian Science, but without experiencing healing, the help of a practitioner was asked, with the result that the pain and soreness were relieved to a great extent, but the swollen glands were not reduced to normal. For about two years the struggle went on, with the help of a practitioner at intervals, sometimes for months at a time. I am most grateful that during all this time I was not inconvenienced in my work, nor forced to give up any activity in which it was my duty or privilege to participate.

Finally, during a conversation with a dear teacher of Christian Science, to whom I had gone to apply for class instruction, an erroneous condition of thought, of malice toward one near to me, which had been almost unconsciously, was brought to light, and a gentle rebuke given. The realization then came that it was my work alone to correct this wrong thinking; so the task was undertaken with the full assurance of right results when the thought was loving and kind toward all. It was about three months before the healing was complete, not only the healing of the physical discord, but of many mental errors as well, which must always be accomplished before the body can manifest harmony. There was one return of the same alarming symptoms several years ago, but these were very quickly destroyed and have never again appeared.
