I took up the study of Christian Science, not for physical...
I took up the study of Christian Science, not for physical healing, but from the desire to be freed from discord, inharmony, and unhappiness in my home, and to help another. I had not thought I needed healing for anything, but after reading the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, for about four weeks, I found that my eyes were healed, and I have not worn glasses since. At the same time a disfiguring lump that had been on my wrist for several years disappeared. This was about six years ago.
For the peace and harmony I have had in the home since then I am most grateful. I have also been healed of colds, burns, laryngitis, neuritis, pains in the back and around the heart, a sty, chapped hands and face, cracked lips, headache, and toothache. I have also been healed of very bad feet. This was a very slow healing, and a great deal of work was done on the problem. One day, to my surprise, I found that I was walking with ease and had no pain; but just when this healing took place I could not tell.
One healing is most wonderful to me. The truth in the words on page 1 of our textbook, "All things are possible to God," was proved to me at a time when I seemed to be passing on. When I tried to get up one morning I could not hold up my head and seemed to have a high fever. I tried several times to get in touch with the practitioner, but he was not at home. In the evening when my husband came home and found me almost unconscious, he became alarmed, and, not being interested in Science, called a doctor, who, when he saw me, ordered me to be taken to a hospital at once, as I had a temperature of one hundred and six degrees, and he doubted whether I would live through the night. He said if I did pull through I would be in the hospital three months, and with everything favorable would be normal in about eight months. I begged my husband to try again to reach the practitioner. This time the practitioner was at home, and started work at once. In less than four days the fever had entirely gone, and in nine days I was in my home, perfectly healed. I felt relief the minute the practitioner started to work for me, and through the whole experience I did not have any fear. I just realized that God was my Life and that He was all-power and the only healer.
